1965 Mustang Convertible Power Top Repair, And Replacement Of The Sunvisors, Brackets, And Rear View Mirror – San Diego, Ca

Just finished doing some convertible top repairs on a 1965 Mustang.  Someone one tried to repair the left convertible top cylinder’s pivot point with a homemade bracket. Not sure how it was supposed to work, but it ended up failing, and caused the top of the cylinder pivot to break off. The bracket on the right is the homemade one. It looked like there may have been a bolt in the larger hole that was the pivot stud, but not sure where it ended up.  Luckily, it did not damage the hydraulic hoses. The customer fabricated one that matched almost identical to the other side. Then, I replaced both sides with some improved hydraulic top cylinders. The new ones have machined aluminum pivot points that do not use the plastic bushings. I also flushed out the old muddy looking hydraulic fluid, and bled the system.  Afterwards,  the convertible top frame was adjusted, so the sides were even with the door glass.  Then, the convertible top header panel, and convertible visor brackets were replaced. The visor brackets also serve as the clamping point for the top. A new rear view mirror and sun visors were installed too. Nothing like a driving a 1965 Mustang Convertible in California during the Winter.
