1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Restoration – San Diego, California

Just finished up a 3 1/2 month mild restoration on a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe. When I started this project, the customer had specific request to make it safe. He has not driven his car in over 12 years, and remembers the factory power steering was all over the place, and the non-power drum brakes were mediocre at best. The body was not all that bad, but needed a new hood, and headlight buckets. It also needed some minor rust repair, and body panel adjustments. The interior got everything replaced with the exception of painting the interior and door panels. The customer wants to wait until the summer to finish remaining interior items.  All the electrical from bumper to bumper was replaced. The heater box was barely hanging onto the dash, so it got replaced as well. All the chrome was either replaced or re-chromed. The GT Rally wheels were restored with new center caps and lug nuts. The list of upgrades are as follows:

  • Stainless Steel Dual Power Front Disc Brakes
  • Borgeson Power Steering
  • All new suspension with 620 lb 1 inch drop coils, mid-eye 4 1/4 1 inch drop leaf springs, 1 inch front sway bar and Monte Carlo Bar
  • TMI’s Pony Sport Seats and 3 point retractable seat belts mounted high like 68 Mustangs
  • Custom Autosound’s USA 66 Concourse Radio with hidden Bluetooth, and concealed speakers
  • Rear gears changed from 2.80 to 3.25
  • Stock engine rebuild with a mild cam
